As a St. Tropez brand ambassador, Ashley Graham knows a thing or two about self-tanner; here she reveals her best tips and tricks so you too can have a radiant summer glow…
What does your express tanning routine look like (are you a 1/2/3-hour tanner?)
I shave, exfoliate, and then apply a little lotion to my dry areas—ankles, knees, elbows, hands, etc. Then I start at the bottom and work my way up. I apply it to each leg individually, then to my stomach, my bum, my back, and then my chest and arms, finally covering my ankles and feet. To finish, I use a brush to do a little contouring on my face and then mist my whole face with the Purity Face Mist. As for the result, it really depends on the occasion or how much time I have. But I'd say I leave the express tan on for a maximum of 2-3 hours.

Can you explain your typical tanning routine? (Preparation, body, face)
I like to start with an exfoliation and moisturize any dry patches before applying body product for a flawless finish. A good base is so important. If I'm in a hurry, which is often the case at home, I use the Express Mousse. If I have more time, I like to use the Self Tan Ultra Dark Violet Mousse for a deeper tan. I always apply cream to my hands and feet last and use a mitt, especially for my back. Once my body is done, I use the Purity Face Mist. Once you get the hang of the routine, it's really easy.
You've been working with St. Tropez for four years now. What are the best tanning tips you've learned?
Pre-treatment is so important! Exfoliating and moisturizing will ensure a beautiful, even finish. Always decide how dark you want it to be and how long to leave each product on before you begin. And never forget the Purity Face Mist!

What rumor would you like to dispel?
It's not hard to get a tan with self-tanner! People seem to think they can't do it or that their tan will be streaky if they do it themselves. But it's really that easy, especially if you prepare your skin.
Can you share your beauty tricks for the red carpet?
I always start by preparing my skin – a good facial with Mzia Shinman and acupuncture with Sandra at Lanshin are a must. A good tan the night before is also key to a truly great glow on the red carpet. I either apply the tan myself or treat myself to a spray tan from Sophie Evans in St. Tropez, which ensures a particularly flawless, professional finish.

AND: Either the Express Mousse or the new Ultra Dark Violet Mousse, depending on the occasion
What do you love most about the new Ultra Dark Violet Mousse?
I've been waiting for this product for ages! I love a purple tan – and the Ultra Dark Violet Mousse gives a fast, rich, natural-looking result that perfectly matches my skin tone. A gorgeous olive shade. I love using it for big events or special occasions; it really creates a "wow" moment. The technology behind it is also fascinating: the erythrulose and melanin boosters mimic the skin's natural melanin production and enhance the depth of the tan.
Do you have any tips for using the Ultra Dark Violet Mousse?
The Self Tan Ultra Dark Violet Mousse is excellent for contouring the face. It dries quickly, so I like to apply a little lotion to my mitt to make the formula easier to spread and blend. You can wash it off after just 30 minutes and still get a really strong and beautiful result. Because it's so quick, you can easily incorporate it into your daily routine and save time in the morning.
How can I switch between the different St. Tropez products?
There really is a product for every situation. The Self Tan Ultra Dark Violet Mousse is great for a rich, eye-catching tan. I like to use that for a red carpet event or a special occasion. If I'm pressed for time or know I'll be out and about all day, I use the Express Mousse. The Purity Face Mist is something I can easily incorporate into my daily routine.
